Death of Mrs J W Townley at Clifton Sunset Home

Mrs Daisy Virginia Brewer Townley aged 73 years 11 months 7 days died January 26 at Memorial Hall Clifton Sunset Home after years of ill health and a stroke. She was born February 19 1889 near Wells Angelina County and married James Walter Townley January 8 1907. Survived by two sons K A Jake Townley of Waco and John Paul Townley of Houston, three daughters Mayme Parker Ruth Berry and Olena Nuckols seven grandchildren and one great grandson. Funeral held January 28 at Clifton Funeral Home with Rev Pilet Todd and Rev J E Morton officiating.

Reverend Erwin H Knitt to Be Installed at Trinity Church

Reverend Erwin H Knitt formerly of First American Lutheran Church San Marcos will be installed as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Clifton at 11:00 Sunday. Reverend Walter T Gigstad will officiate. A reception for Knitt and family will follow from 3:00 to 5:00 in the church fellowship hall. Knitt, born November 14 1915 in Clintonville Wisconsin, was ordained June 1 1941 and has four children Beth Anne is a student at Southwest Texas State College.

Lake Whitney Safest Lake in Texas With High Attendance

Lake Whitney tops safety records with no drownings in 1962 and a total attendance near 11 million across 1960 1962. In 1961 the lake drew 4 321 300 visitors and Riverside Park Lofers Bend McCown Valley Juniper Cove Kimball Bend Morgan Lakeside Walling Bend and Soldiers Bluff exceeded 200 000 visitors. Soldiers Bluff led with about 649 500 visitors in 1962. Also noted is Mrs Peder Dahl’s post surgery return to Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home and hopes for full recovery.

VFW Post 8553 Recaps Year End Activities

Commander J B Railsback led the Robert E. Binford Post 8553 VFW at its January 17 meeting. The six new lifetime members were named along with a total membership of 101. past year activities included a Christmas party for families and Boy Scout Pack 234, concession stand at the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo, donations to Little League, March of Dimes, groceries for a needy family, and a Christmas gift to Clifton Lutheran Sunset. The next meeting is February 7 at 7:30 PM.

Sam Richards Dies Here Sunday

Clifton friends of Sam Richards mourn his death at the local hospital at 1 15 A M Sunday January 27 after a year of failing health He was 75 He lived at 810 South Avenue H Clifton The funeral was held Tuesday January 29 with a service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Norse and interment in Our Savior's Lutheran Church Cemetery. He leaves wife six children and many grandchildren.

Former Clifton resident dies after illness and service

Mrs. Dorothy Faye Williams Dunlop aged 31 years 10 months 4 days died January 27 at Winkler County Memorial Hospital Kermit after extended illness. Born in Coleman she lived in Hamilton Clifton Silver City and Kermit and was wife of Calvin Dunlop mother of Jack and Joe. Funeral services were held in Kermit and Hamilton with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

Pancake Supper Committees Named for Clifton Band Benefit

G. B. Carter of Meridian is a patient at Clifton hospital since January 28. A. S. Lomax of Meridian has received care at Clifton since January 29. Mrs. Charles Walker of Valley Mills entered Clifton hospital on January 28 and had surgery this Wednesday.

Clifton cattle auction feeds markets and egg grain prices

Prices from Clifton Thursday morning show eggs at 33 cents a dozen for large A, 25 cents for medium and B large, chicks 20 cents, cracks 15 cents. Grain lists oats at 78 cents per bushel, milling wheat 2.06, spring wheat 1.75, millet 1.93, barley 98 cents, yellow corn 1.40. About 575 cattle offered. market 50 to 100 cents lower. Large steers and yearlings 23 to 25 dollars. cows and calves 150 to 250. butcher cows 14 to 17. stocker steers 24 to 27.
