County Agent Reports Phosphorus Can Boost Calf Crop
Texas beef cattle producers should supplement phosphorus during late summer through winter as deficiencies reduce gains. Uel D. Thompson of Texas A&M notes cows with phosphorus supplements gain up to 200 pounds, calves 50-70 pounds at weaning, and calf crops rise as much as 30 percent. Practical methods include adding monosodium phosphate to water or mineral feeders with careful dosing and storage.
