Clifton stores stayed open late last Thursday with traffic busy from 6 to 8 pm and lights off by 845 as business slowed. Merchants consider a weekly late opening next year to boost trade and serve family shopping, with no firm decision yet.
Bernard Erickson of Abilene Christian College guards and linebackers for the Wildcats earning his first varsity letter. The sophomore standout, 6-1 and 215 pounds, intercepted a Northwestern Louisiana aerial and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown. He was a regular in the linebacking corps all season and exuded strength in junior and track duties.
Mr and Mrs Clark Harper announce daughter Mary Ann born December 10 1964 at Clifton hospital weighing 5 pounds 2 ounces. Mr and Mrs Eddie Miller announce daughter Lucretia born December 13 1964 at Clifton hospital weighing 5 pounds. Mr and Mrs Ray G Munoz announce son Joe born December 14 1964 at Clifton hospital weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces.
Usual monthly singing will be held in the chapel from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday afternoon December 20. Everyone is invited to attend and participate.
At Clifton Wednesday auction 485 cattle sold with active, steady tone. Good to high range steers and yearlings brought 19 to 21.50. butcher calves 17 to 20. canners 8 to 11.50. bulls 12 to 16.50. stocker steers 18.50 to 21. cows 11 to 13.50. hogs topped 15.50 to 16. Grain and egg prices listed for the week.
Kenneth Holder, son of Dr and Mrs W T Holder of Clifton, won first in the University Interscholastic League All Region High School Band tryouts held December 12 at University High School in Waco. Seven Clifton students placed second. The All Region Band concert is January 30 at Killeen High School auditorium with Clarence Sawhill of UCLA as clinician.
Clifton resident Bobby Conrad will suit up for the NFL Runner-Up Bowl at Miami on January 3 with the St. Louis Cardinals, who finished second in the Eastern Division, and will join the East's All-Pro Game squad in California on January 10 after starting practice December 26.
Clifton man Will Krueger Jr sold three registered Polled Hereford cows and two registered Polled Hereford bulls to Central Texas cattlemen. Cows went to Joe W. Reynolds Mart A G Sommerfeld Valley Mills and Michael T Railsback Waco. Bulls went to C Snell Lampasas and H C Albrecht Rio Vista.
Dock Martin of Meridian died December 9 in Clifton hospital after 18 months illness. He was 59 years old and survived by his wife Leona Fricke Martin and daughter Gloria Hewlett. Born April 6 1905 at Turnersville he lived in Clifton until moving to Meridian about 20 years ago. He enjoyed hunting and had hunted the prior Monday night. The obituary notes a Clifton burial rites to be held December 11.
Third through twelfth grade music students will present traditional Christmas carols at 3:00 PM Sunday in Bettis Auditorium Clifton Public Directing the program will be Mrs Patsy Ruth Lancaster with Susan Witcher as accompanist and John Lancaster as narrator A brass quartet of Stephen Zimmerman Ronnie Spenrath Mike Hoff and Sheron Adams will also perform Mrs Lancaster invites all to attend no admission charge.
Bosque County Attorney Charles H. Bolton commended Clifton Chief of Police Clarence N. Beasley for excellent work in capturing two men on DWI charges. A Clifton man received 20 days in jail and a 250 dollar fine after a December trial. license suspended six months. Earlier, a Mesquite man arrested December 12 pled guilty, paid 175 dollar fine, and was released back home.
Members of the American Legion Post and Auxiliary and their families meet Saturday evening December 19 at 7 30 for the annual family night program at the Post Home. Attendees should bring a covered dish and meat will be furnished by the Post.
Mr and Mrs Herman Gillaspie traveled to Dallas on Thursday after the sudden death of her brother in law J C Wilcher from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon with burial at Restland Memorial Park. Also attending from this city were Mr and Mrs John Tom Gillaspie.
Delbert and Alta Burkhart hosted an open house in Clifton for Henry and Alta Fambrough at 1709 West Sun Street on December 6. About 133 guests attended from Lubbock and nearby areas, with gold décor and a four candlestick centerpiece.
Baylor University announces 1964 football letters awarded to 35 players plus seven senior letters. 21 lettermen expected back for 1965. Ernest Erickson of Clifton led the group with his third letter as center.

The Sanctuary Choir presents John W. Peterson's Night of Miracles at 7:00 P.M. Sunday December 26 with Ralph M. Halli directing and Sue Krueger and Susan Witcher on accompaniment. The program features soprano, alto, and bass soloists. Pastor Clay Burns will narrate. church children will introduce the cantata with Christmas songs and scripture passages at 6:45 P.M. Public invited.
City Sanitation Department crews will work three days next week for Christmas, conducting a single trash collection route in residential areas. City Secretary E. B. Harris announced the truck will operate Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in the usual order, with the same schedule repeating the following week for the New Year holidays but with four workdays.
Mrs S L Witcher of this city has been elected to a three year term on the Baylor University Ex-Students Association board of directors. Officers elected include Rufus Nash president John G Heard 1st vice president Will Davis 2nd vice president and Stonie Catlen treasurer. Dr George Stokes is executive director with headquarters in the Student Union Building on the Baylor campus in Waco.
Clifton resident since 1919 Mrs. W. A. Hanna aged 90 years, 7 months, 26 days, died December 14 after a fall and heart attack. Born April 19, 1874 in Naples Illinois, she moved to Meridian as a child, and later to Clifton with her husband William Hanna.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto C. Rueter of Clifton celebrated 50 years of marriage with an open house December 13 at the Zion United Church of Christ Educational Building in Womack. Guests included wedding party members and grandchildren Diane and Dan Wilson III.
At the Clifton Chapter FFA meeting held December 14 in the Ag Building members ratified a new constitution and voted to hold the Father Son Banquet in the school cafeteria during George Washington’s birthday week. Sponsor Gerald Peacock received a birthday party and gifts of two shirts and gloves. The next meeting is set for January 4, per Gary Holt.
Clifton merchants voted to close Christmas Day December 25 and reopen December 26. They also approved a three day New Year holiday weekend January 1 2 3. Stores will operate usual hours on December 26 despite the closures.
Bosque County Farmers Union president L. C. Sommerfeld reminds members of the next meeting on Wednesday December 30. The gathering will be held in the Parish Hall at Norse starting at 7 30.
Clifton area churches plan Christmas services and programs in coming week. First Presbyterian will hold Preparation for Holy Communion on December 20 and Christmas Eve Holy Communion on December 24. Immanuel Lutheran hosts a Christmas tree gift exchange and a Bethlehem themed service on December 24 with slides and fruit bags for children, plus a 10:30 Christmas morning service. Grace Memorial Baptist features a 40 minute Christmas cantata by the First Baptist Valley Mills junior choir December 20, followed by carols and gift exchanges. United Presbyterian hosts a Christmas supper and program December 22 in City Hall dining room, with departmental program and gift exchange. First Methodist held a December 13 cantata King All Glorious. December 20 includes a church Christmas program and Santa visit with fruit and gifts. Trinity Lutheran lists a Sunday School candlelight service at 7:30 December 24.
