Former Secretary of State Dean Acheson urges Democrats and Republicans to unite for strong U S defense amid ABM debate. He argues Minuteman protection, Safeguard viability, and arms talks, with welfare costs rising and nuclear spending shifts cited to support an ABM go ahead.

Paul Mangum, former Clifton resident, heads the Guidance and Control Simulation Group at TRW Systems Houston. He helps simulate onboard guidance for Apollo missions and also serves as a Task Manager handling NASA contracts. Mangum is the son of Mr and Mrs Granville Mangum of Clifton and is married to Sherrie Blewett.

The Iredell United Methodist Church marks the 100th anniversary of Methodists in Tredell with a day of events on Sunday August 10. Registration at 10 a.m. worship at 11 a.m. a basket lunch at noon, 3 p.m. speakers including former members, 8 p.m. sing and worship, and supper at the school. All former and present members and the public are invited.
Six attended Junior Camp July 6 12 at Masters Workshop near Waco. Six attended Junior High Camp July 13 19. Five attended Senior High Camp July 20 26. Kathleen Kruse was the counselor. Six girls also attended the Youth Rally and Retreat July 26.
