In Bosque County 24.8 percent of registered voters cast 1 212 ballots. Amendments 1 3 6 were defeated while 4 5 7 8 were approved including more student aid and aid to surviving spouses and minor children of certain public servants.
The Clifton Public Schools budget reading for the 1970 school year will be held at the School Tax Assessor-Collector's Office in Clifton on August 2. The public is invited to attend to hear the budget.
Clifton native Wayne Prescher is set to play for the North team in the Texas Hiich School Coaches School All Star game at the Cotton Bowl on August 7. Tommy Stewart, 18 from Odessa Permian, a quarterback and halfback, also is scheduled to participate and was all state at Permian. Stewart is son of Mr. and Mrs John Stewart, longtime Cliftonians now in Odessa, and nephew of Emmett and Mills Stewart.

CHS Band Director Mel Cowan announced summer practice for students in grades 7 through 12 will begin Wednesday morning August 13 at 8 o clock in the High School Band Hall. The first rehearsal ends at 10, with the schedule for subsequent sessions set then. Students should ensure their instruments are in good condition before practice.
Two people died Monday in Bosque County traffic crashes marking the first fatalities of 1969 in the county. Miss Deirdre Dulick, 18, of Morgan, died after a 7:10 am collision near Smith Bend. Mrs. Bessie Tyra, 40, of Aquilla, died at Whitney Hospital after a Sunday crash. Criminal charges were filed against Billy Meri Johnson for murder DWI and Ira Lee Roland for negligent homicide. both cases await grand jury action.
Public invited to the Bosque County Home Demonstration Clubs Achievement Day at Clifton City Hall Dining Room on Wednesday August 13. Registration begins 9 30 a m with booths and displays from local groups. The program includes welcome song devotion humorous reading demonstrations lunch prayers and a hat show with experts from Lone Star Gas and Busy Bee Club.

Clifton prepares for its 38th annual Central Texas Fair set August 28 to 30 with an outdoor stage for local groups between 6 and 8 p.m. evenings. A Barnyard Show for young children will run during the event. Curtis Bakke urges a community work night on August 22 at 6 p.m. to ready the grounds. Local talent must contact General Superintendent Homer McDougal by August 25 with group details for scheduling. The fair will omit the broiler show this year to accommodate extra space.
In a tense final at Gatesville, Clifton catcher Gene Dreyer secured the final out as Gatesville scored five in the bottom of the last inning to overturn a 4-0 Clifton lead. An earlier missed infield fly rule call and a late protest issue shaped the outcome, with Clifton eliminated.
