Cubs Start 1969 Football Practice in Record Heat
Clifton coaches announce 1969 Cubs begin practice next Monday under extreme heat. Players must pass physicals and obtain parental permissions. Two a day workouts planned with morning and evening sessions and a Sunday meeting to set times. A scrimmage with Rogers is planned for Sept 5 with Evant High, and the season opener vs Midway on Sept 12.

Jane Olson Crowned Bosque County Farm Bureau Queen
Jane Olson was named 1969 Bosque County Farm Bureau Queen at the Queen Contest held Aug 9 in Womack Hall Clifton Texas. Rita Willmann was runner-up with audience acclaim and last year's queen Susan Nichols helped crown Olson. Other contestants were Charlotte Evans Carol Jean Dorman and Diane Wilson.

The Central Texas Fair runs August 28 to 30 in Clifton with a parade at 6 p.m. in downtown. Livestock and home economics shows, dress revue, rodeo, talent and barnyard exhibits, carnival and more are planned. Prizes await best decorated floats. Entries for livestock and H E exhibits are due August 20 and 25.

A motor truck fire at the Mosheim location caused a scare when reported as a store blaze. Valley Mills and Clifton fire units worked to extinguish the engine fire in a panel delivery truck owned by a Waco wholesale grocery firm.

Annual Civic Turkey Dinner Set August 29
Clifton Civic Improvement Society members plan an all–food turkey dinner on Friday August 29 in the City Hall dining room during the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo. The group will not canvas for funds but has donated 1500 toward a new hospital. Cleanup day is August 25 at 9 am with volunteers from Civic Society to prepare the dining area.

Clifton superintendent Kent Appleby received a special award among 20 superintendents for outstanding services to high school athletics.
