Lake Whitney Beauties & Bass Winners Listed

Lake Whitney hosted the 19 year beauty pageant with a record crowd and 49 junior entrants won by Juanita Vasquez of Cleburne while Katrina Bell of Crowley claimed the seniors. The 16th State Bass Tournament drew 785 entries, with top honors to O H Womack and J R Miller of Dallas for 19 pounds 5.5 ounces in team division and George White of San Angelo 7 pounds 5 ounces in individual. Ray Green and family of Waco won husband wife with 5 pounds 6 ounces. Eddie and Joe Leach from Richardson took father son with 7 pounds 13.5 ounces. Jim Bob Jones of Arlington captured biggest bass at 5 pounds 13 ounces. Gordon Schmidt of Midland, former Lake Whitney camp operator, landed a 7 pound 2 ounce lunker in 1960.

Slaughter Hogs Must Now Have On-Farm Check

Producers selling hogs for slaughter must have on farm inspection and a hauling permit before animals may leave the farm for slaughter. Effective Monday April 26, this rule was reported by Robert Reich, Bosque County Agricultural Agent.

Induction Night for Clifton High National Honor Society

Clifton High National Honor Society held its Spring Induction on Monday April 26 1971 at 7:00 p.m. starting with a meal in the school cafeteria then moving to First Presbyterian Church for the ceremony. Principal Walter Hansen presided as several juniors and seniors were inducted and received membership cards and pins while Mayor Charles Isenhower addressed the group.

Ground Breaking for New Hospital Set Here Sunday

Ground breaking ceremonies for Clifion's Goodall-Witcher Hospital proceed Sunday at 3 p.m. at Highway 219 West and Hillside Drive. The 64 bed facility is funded in part by First Federal Savings and Loan and includes hospital staff, board members, and invited dignitaries.

Clifton girls place in field events and relays at Gatesville District 10-AA meet earning 57.5 points and advancing several athletes to the regional in Midway. Pam Rice takes third in shot put. City approves low bid for dump truck and eyes new facilities

At a special City Council session bids for a new dump truck ranged from 4 399 78 to 4 969 56 with E E Stewart Motors selected as the low bidder. Roller bids 2060 00 to 3125 00 were reviewed with no award. Five men were named to the City Planning Commission and Zoning. The Council ratified the purchase of about 75 acres from Bernice Willingham for garbage dumping.

Bosque County Unit Leads State Cancer Efforts Say Crusade Chief

The Bosque County American Cancer Society unit met in Meridian April 19 with 32 registrants from ten communities. Coxed by Crusade Chair Joe White the group reported Bosque County ranks 15th among 206 Texas units and led the district last year as volunteers supported anti cancer education and smoking cessation efforts.

The Lanes Chapel Sing ing will be held Sunday May 2 from 2 to 4 PM and the public is invited to attend.

Clifton opens new garbage disposal area and city trade recall

The city will launch a new designated garbage disposal site Saturday May 1 on land bought from Bernice Willingham about 2.5 miles east of Clifton on State Highway 219 entrance between Moore and Ant Homes. Hours 10 am to 6 pm six days a week closed Sundays. Council renegotiated a trade with Farmers State Bank for the Show Building and will return 2500 to the bank, with bids to be advertised later as required. The council also approved weekly Northeast Clifton garbage pickups on Wednesdays and Fridays and accepted Plot No 7 of the Nrueger Addition.

CHS Bands Set May 6 Concert With Pie Coffee

The CHS Concert and Stage Band will perform on Thursday May 6 at 7 30 p m in the school auditorium. Tickets cost 1 for adults and 50 cents for students and include pie and coffee. Tickets are sold by band members or at Calvert's or Service Drug.

Coon Creek Homecoming Draws Hundreds for Singing

About 400 people attended the Coon Creek Homecoming at Cass Creek Church in the southwest, with attendees including families linked to the Hikes Reeds Mallontes Smiths and Bons. The highlight was a community singing featuring Gil Singers from Cleburne Walnut Springs and others, while a register recorded a portion of attendees and several local families were noted among the guests.

Three Hurt in Pickup Wreck Near Morgan Sun

On Sunday afternoon April 25 a pickup driven by Dosa Hudrupa overturned on Farm-to-Market Road east of Morgan. In the crash, Dosa Hudrupa was critically injured along with George Hernandez, while Javier Perez and another rider sustained injuries. The incident was investigated by patrolman Gerald Baker.

Civic Society Plans May Day Program

Members of the Clifton Civic Improvement Society will hold a May Day program at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the City Hall dining room. Miss Pagenia Cases of the Texas Highway Department in Waco presented pictures titled Texas Land of Contrast.
