Heavy Freight Trucks Crash Near Clareton
Don Bigelow of Lapeer was injured when his Associated Freight Lines tractor rear ended a parked steel truck along US-10 two and a half miles east of Clareton. He suffered knee and shoulder injuries, but no fractures, and was treated and released at Clare General Hospital. The steel truck load spilled, its rear end damaged, and the freight lines tractor ruined.

Mrs. Jim Matthews of Lansing was taken to St. Lawrence Hospital in critical condition after a September 16 automobile crash near Lansing. Former Miss Ann Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Mitchell, suffered a broken jaw and back, fractured skull, and partial paralysis when the car driven by Matthews hit a culvert and rolled. Pioneers Rally For 25 19 Win At Cheboygan
Clare High School Pioneers overcame a 6 19 deficit at halftime to beat Cheboygan 25 19 on their field. Ray Lucy scored three touchdowns and added the conversion as Clare’s line shut down Cheboygan in the second half. Nearly 100 Clare fans attended the game and a post game dance followed before travel home. The Pioneers plan to host Reed City and visit St Louis in upcoming games. The Junior Varsity lost 25 0 at Midland in its opener with a late Clare touchdown nullified by a penalty.
