Sarah Ann Stamm born January 6 1868 in Rutland township Barry county Michigan died October 2 1951 at her Gilmore Township Isabella county home. She married John Charles Shilling October 12 1885 and they cleared a farm in Gilmore. Survived by six children twenty four grandchildren fifty eight great grandchildren two sisters and a half brother. Funeral at Gilmore Church of Christ with Rev L J Nevins officiating. Interment Gilmore Cemetery. Coker Funeral Home in charge.

City Commission approved building permits for business additions and a residence, including a 42x60 foot Greer Auto Sales garage extension on North MecHwan 1, a 16x40 foot Faym Service store addition on West Second St for storage, a Maple St residence by Andrew Irving, and a Court St garage for Raymond Han chett. Three Fined For Violation Of Food Laws
Gordon Granger of Lake City Michigan Department of Agriculture inspected in the city Tuesday and fined three for violations of State Food Laws. Wesley Younganist of Ient City pleaded guilty and paid 14 dollars for transporting apples not properly identified and untaxed. Robert Englund of Ludington pleaded guilty and paid 9 dollars on the same charge. Gleason & Co of Traverse City through Theodore Ayers was fined 24.06 dollars for transporting peaches not marked with name and address of the packet.

They Grow Em Big At White's Nursery
The lemon tree at White's Greenhouse and Nursery is bearing again with green fruit that will ripen in three to four months. The tree stands about five feet high with lemons now five inches in diameter and last season produced lesions 14 to 15 inches in circumference when ripe. A six foot grapefruit tree is also loaded with green fruit of large size, likely to ripen similarly. The grapefruit tree is said to be the only one in Central Michigan. Visitors are welcome to tour the orchard.

Grandpa Schlafley 100th Birthday Observed in Clare
Fred Schlafley aged 100, Clare’s oldest resident, marked a century this Saturday at the Clare Iuescent Home. A Wayne County Ohio origin, he came to what is now Lincoln Township in 1858, living as a pioneer and later a longtime Clare resident and Moose Lodge member. He married Lena Graber and leaves three daughters and three sons.

Auto Crashes Reported With Traffic Violations And Injuries
State Police ticketed Jay RK. King, 39, of Farwell, for failure to yield right of way after a collision with William H. Vaughn, 59, of Clare, near the livestock auction yard. Each car damage estimated at 150 dollars. Pauline Hilyard, 17, and Lillian Wiehern, a Grand Blanc resident, were bruised and taken to Central Michigan Hospital after a Mt. Pleasant crash involving Clarity H. Hilyard 50 and William Moore 30 both of Farwell. Moore cited for stopping distance. Moore car damage 200 dollars. Hilyard car 400 dollars.

Progress Made Black-Topping County Roads
Black top was completed on 2.5 miles in Winterfield township by Aber-Carmody Co. The project extends north from M-61 to the town hall and is a county township effort. Clare County crews work on three miles of grading and drainage for future paving from M-61 east of Spikehorn’s to Huber’s Store. The work is federal county and township funded under state supervision. Failure to pay fines lands man in county jail
Lyle Steadman of Clare was jailed after failing to pay a $29 fine for reckless driving. He chose jail time but did not pay, resulting in a 20 day county jail commitment. Also jailed were Lyle Sowers for indecent exposure and P H Cowen for drunken dis orderly conduct with fines of 0 and 10 dollars respectively. Archie Varville sped 85 mph in a school zone and paid an 8.60 fine. Minor traffic cases were filed in Municipal Court this past week.
