District Woman's Club Meetings in Midland October 7 8

Police report decrease in lawlessness
City police note a traffic collision on US 10 involving Martha L. Schultz of Gladwin county driving a 1937 Plymouth and Earl Hobart of Ohio in a 1947 Ford. Damages are estimated at 200 dollars to the Hobart car and 50 dollars to the Schultz car. Carl R. Stephenson of Saginaw was fined 12 dollars for disturbing the peace. Police warn drivers to follow street directions near school crossings or face arrest and fines.

Pfannes Dies at 35 in University Hospital
Herbert George Pfannes died after a long illness at University Hospital Ann Arbor at age 35. He was born March 30 1912 in Hatton township Clare County and lived on the farm while helping rebuild the family home after a 1941 fire. He is survived by his father, sisters Grace and Margaret, and brothers Joe and Carl. Funeral services were held at St Athanasius Church Harrison with Requiem High Mass and a sermon by Father Brophy. Pallbearers included Edward William and Richard Pfannes and Jake Charles and William Stegmeyer among others attendees from Detroit Chicago and Rosebush.

Mrs. N Shimmell Dies After Year of Illness
Mrs. Norman Shimmell died September 20 1947 at 7 00 am in Clare Hospital after a yearlong illness. Born Eliza Bell May 26 1909 in Greenwood township Clare County she lived near Harrison most of her life. She married Norman H Shimmell April 2 1925 and had four children Henry Beatrice Gail and Danny. Funeral services were held September 23 at Fanning Funeral Home Harrison and United Brethren Church Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mrs Violet Wilson Burned in Kerosen e Can Explosion
Mrs Violet Wilson suffered severe facial chest and arm burns Saturday when a kerosene can exploded during a fire build. She was transported to Gladwin hospital where she remains. The house and its contents were destroyed by the blaze.

Four Arrested by Conservation Officers in Deer Case
Conservation officers busted an illegal deer hunting party in Free man township. Hartford Nantz and Everett Nantz faced charges after a freshly butchered deer and velvet buck head were found. two others were stopped with a .30 caliber rifle. All four were arraigned. fines ranged from 25 to 100 dollars plus costs. The meat, valued at about three dollars per pound, was seized for disposal.

The defense showed grit but pass defense troubled them at times. Campbell’s knee injury ended his night, likely sidelining him for the Standish game.
