Service Men's Club Hosts Clare County Selectees Dinner
Thirty five members of the Clare County Service Men's Club hosted the September Selective Service contingent at a chicken dinner in Barnes Cate’s private dining room at 7:00 PM. Rev Fr Stanley Morrison gave the invocation, George White led the program, Had Johnston introduced the selectees, and Rev Albert Dawe offered best wishes for a safe speedy return. The group departed Wednesday morning for induction.

First Blackout Test Conducted With Civilian Defense Aid
Citizens cooperated fully in Clayve's first air raid blackout on Tuesday at 9 57 p m. Lights out for three minutes as the old steam whistle and fire siren sounded. One violator from another county, Arthur Williams of Ithaca, faced reckless driving charges after speeding near the control center and failing to dim lights. Williams pleaded guilty, fined 25 dollars plus 3 85 dollars costs. Civilian Defense records will review the violation.
