Farewell Given to Pastor Hurd by Members and Friends

Members and friends gathered at the Methodist church to honor Rev. W. W. Hurd after four years of service. Clergy from Congregational Catholic and Baptist churches attended, praising his sunshine and unity efforts. Gifts were presented to the pastor and Mrs. Hurd, with expressions of gratitude for his community work and leadership.

Athletics topic leads Epworth League service

The Epworth League held a Sunday night program on Athletics led by Vivian Cunningham. Next Sunday’s Rally Day will be led by Lamont Hamlin with the topic She Call to Adventure. Everyone is invited to attend at 6:30 p.m. at Hather Chaffee.

Clare High School Elects Athletic Association Officers

Students from Clare High School and the seventh and eighth grades met in the auditorium Tuesday to elect the Athletic Association officers for the year. Officers named include President Lemont Hamlin Vice President Roy Wilson Secretary William Murphy and Treasurer Hilda Eberhart. Membership tickets with a card and free home-game admission are on sale this week.

Short Time Remains to Renew Michigan Driver Licenses

About half a million motorists face license revocation after November 1 unless new operator licenses surge nationwide. Michigan state police report 225,000 licenses issued so far with six weeks left to fill 650,000 more. Wayne County alone has 350,000 renewals due. renewals required for pre 1925 licenses by November 1, 1925. further rules for later licenses. Authorities warn arrests and fines for driving on old licenses. false applications risk perjury with penalties up to 15 years. Current issuance runs about 3,000 per day nationwide, 1,000 in Detroit. to renew all, 10,000 per day needed.

Two Injured in Rural Car Collision Near Clare

Last Thursday evening Mr and Mrs Frank Perron and their six year old granddaughter Madonna Dick were in a northbound car that collided with Frank Nevins eastbound vehicle two miles south and one mile east of Clare. Mrs Perron and Madonna were injured while the Perron car and its occupants suffered minor injuries.

County dealers to handle fish and game license sales

Clare High opened strong last Friday defeating Beaverton at Harrison Fair Grounds. Walt Upthegrove and Waite led the offense with strong gains while the defense showed promise but faced Beaverton’s late surge. A Clare county exhibit at the Saginaw County Fair drew visitors to an 18 by 22 foot display from Fowler Orchards Arthur township. Earl Cradit notes seventy bushels of Greening and Wealthy apples were prepared with meticulous care. Mr. F A Fowler of Saginaw owns the farm and maintains a summer home nearby.

The forty fifth Clare County Fair drew praise for its efficiency from officers and prominent displays across stock, grains, vegetables, and women handicraft. Highlights included high class horse races, pony events, county team contests, Beaverton and Clare high school football, and a thriving midway with clean amusements.

Annual Mission Festival at St John’s Lutheran

St John’s Lutheran Church hosts its annual mission festival on Sunday with two morning services and a 2:30 p.m. English service. Rev John Nicolai of Ardian Michigan preaches in German and English. Herrick Man Dies After Monthlong Illness

George W. Armstrong 85 a Herrick resident and early Michigan settler died September 18 1931 after a monthlong illness at his home. He came to Michigan 1868 and later moved to Herrick with Emma Seeley they had four children. Services were held at the home and Baptist church with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery.
