Michigan Extends Bow and Arrow Deer Season Statewide
Bow and arrow hunters may stalk deer anywhere in Michigan starting October 1, with a 36 day season ending November 5. The change opens the entire state to archery deer hunting for the first time, up from last year’s 14 day window. The department expects higher demand for licenses. Archery deer season in Allegan county runs October 1 to November 30. Squirrel season runs October 18 to November 56 inclusive, with a five per day bag, ten in possession, 25 for the season. Starlings are not protected and may be killed. local authorities should be consulted when using guns within city boundaries.

Former Clare County resident dies at Garden City home
Fred Holt aged 85, born in Sarnia April 19 1882 died suddenly at his Garden City home after a heart attack while gardening. He moved to Michigan as a child, lived near West Branch, worked as head dairy man on the Cornwell Ranch and in recent years as Garden City school maintenance operator. John F. Garchow, longtime Clare area resident, died Tuesday preceding Sept 11 in Saginaw at his son's home. He was born April 8, 1866 in Germany and moved to Clare, later settling in Saginaw in 1919. Survived by a wife, Sophia, six sons including Otto and John, twenty six grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, a brother in Clare, and many relatives.
