Clare School Board to seek 2.2 million bond issue
Clare Board of Education votes to pursue a December 9 bond referendum for 2.2 million to fund a new elementary school and remodel the existing facility. County Humane Society To Be Formed In Clare County
Clare County eyes a humane society to care for abandoned and stray dogs with help from civic groups the state humane society and the Clare County Board of Commissioners. Mrs Diane Atwell of Harrison leads the drive and notes no county shelter exists with Mt Pleasant housing the nearest facility. The effort seeks space funds and personnel, with the county budgeting 4000 in 1971 for a dog control program and aiming to deputize an animal control officer to oversee an animal shelter run by the humane society.

Worldtronic Union Reach Tentative Two Year Pact
Worldtronic Clare plant and Local 494 Allied Industrial Workers reached a tentative two year contract after a 13 week 91 day strike that began June 15. Approximately 60 employees would receive a 32 cent first year raise and increases in year two. 10 paid holidays include a Christmas break. Final approval and signing are expected Friday with operations resuming Monday or Tuesday.

Farwell Ordered to Stop Drain Pollution Into Tobacco River
Two state agencies the Department of Natural Resources and the Water Resources Commission ordered Farwell to fix pollution from village drains. A summer survey found six of seven drains discharging untreated waste into the Tobacco River, prompting the investigation.
