Farwell Labor Day drew a large crowd despite a morning shower. The day featured a high school band, contests won by Johnny Colmus and Lois Colmus, a Ball game Farwell defeating Coleman 3 to 1, and a revived Farm Exhibit in the Mason building. Barth and Myra entertained, and fireworks closed the evening after popular free acts and crowded eateries.

Five boys arrested by state police charged with petty larceny
State Police detained five youths from near Lake on petty larceny charges last Thursday. Three faced Probate cases while two others were identified as LeRoy Phillips aged 18 and Orville Phillips aged 21. Justice Jennings Archambault reduced a jail sentence to ninety days probation after a Friday hearing. Sheriff Amble later arrested Basil Sersaw 17 of Franklin township for daytime breaking and entering and bound him over to circuit court with a $500 bond.
