The Clare Public School system announces the opening Monday at 8:30 a.m. with five new hires: Kennedy economics and guidance, Tichenor principal, Rogers Latin French, Sanford English, Bates science and mathematics, plus additional staff covering grades and subjects. Bert Bergey Injured on U S 10 While Tile Laying
Bert Bergey was injured last Thursday while working in a ditch seven and a half feet deep on U S 10 three miles east of Clare when a cave-in buried him. He sustained three broken ribs and extensive bruising, was freed by nearby workers and treated by Dr. Sanford.

Five CCC members injured in forest fire truck crash
Five members of Civilian Conservation Corps Company 684 were injured Monday when a food truck for forest fire crews along the Houghton Lake state forest was forced off the road by a high speed passenger car from Toledo. Driver Henderson swerved onto a sand pile, rolled the truck onto its side. Genske suffered concussion and skull fracture. Richards broke a collar bone. Genske and Richards were taken to Mt. Pleasant hospital for treatment.
