Clare County Fair Will Be Opened Next Wednesday

Tragedy touched Rosebush on Tuesday as six year old Billy Ackerman was killed crossing US 27 with his sister Jean en route to North Rosebush school. Jean survived with serious injuries after a car driven by James Ballas left the road. the community mourns as services are held and the fair opening is postponed.

Law Requires License to Board Minor Children

Notice to Clare Storekeepers on Incinerator Use

The City of Clare warns storekeepers to stop placing non burnable cans glass and other refuse in the municipal incinerators. If cooperation fails the city will discontinue the incinerators and stores must handle their own rubbish per Mayor and Common Council.

Hayes Agricultural School Opens September 8 in Harrison

Supt Chas Amble announced the Hayes Agricultural School will open the fall term next Monday September 8 with a teachers meeting scheduled. Enrollment begins Tuesday for students as kindergarten is discontinued and beginners move to first grade. Weekend Auto Crash Reports One Collision in Clare County

One traffic accident occurred over Labor Day weekend. Charles A. Vincent of Flint driving a 1947 Chevrolet struck the back of Marguerite Leonard of Clare in Clare while she slowed about 100 feet west of the city limits at 5 PM Monday. Vincent’s wife Janet treated for head cuts and Ester Vincent for lip and dental injuries. Vehicle damages listed at $400 and $3.00. Vincent cited for following too closely. Other notices include arrests for drunkeness, disorderly conduct, speeding, and a nine mile chase on North McEwan St. near Farwell. Police jailed suspects as court actions continued through the night.

Flint man rescues baby from blaze and suffers burns

Robert Eschenweck, 21, of Flint township, saved his ten week old daughter Shirley Zeanin from a house fire that destroyed a three room dwelling. He was treated at Hurley Hospital for burns to his hands. his wife was away at the time.

Holbrook sentenced to Jackson Prison for statutory rape

Wm Holbrook of Clare pleaded guilty in Clare County Circuit Court to statutory rape and indecent liberties. In Harrison he received a five to eight year sentence in Southern Michigan State Prison at Jackson with a five year recommendation. He collapsed upon hearing the sentence and was escorted from the court. He was later taken to Jackson. Vern Owen of Hatton township pleaded guilty to neglect of his children and cruel punishment and received two years probation with conditions to avoid liquor and trouble.

Custodian Hurt After Fall At Clare Public Schools

Walter Foell, a custodian and engineer for Clare Public Schools, fell about six feet from a stepladder Thursday afternoon in the school building. He suffered a concussion and three broken ribs and was taken to Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. Doctors reported no skull fracture and said he was improving.
