He lived with his mother until her 1927 death then resided on the Bert Greer place near Farwell and at several convalescent homes before dying August 25, 1954. He leaves two sisters Florence Johnson of Clare and Dora Dalton of Muskegon plus many relatives. Services were held at Thurston Funeral Home in Clare with Rev Leslie Nevins and burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.

County Schools Stock Up As 3000 Students Return
About 3000 students will enroll in 25 Clare County schools this year with most registering on September 7. Two small schools, Miller and Wallace, have closed and students transferred to nearby schools. New teachers are named at several rural schools including Franklin, Garfield, Hamilton Ambile, and Hatton Number 5. Harrison expects over 600 students, with five new kindergartners and four new upper graders. Enrollment is set for September 7 for elementary and junior high, with senior high the next day. The year shows a 20 student increase over last year.

John Akins of Clare is listed in the National Music Camp Interlocher group as a member of the All State Orchestra. The ensemble is one of five groups formed from students in more than 375 state schools with scholarships aiding most participants. A six program series will air on state radio from November, drawn from Sunday concert performances and distributed by the University of Michigan Broadcasting Service.

Accident Takes Life of Lloyd Edick in City Sewer Project
Lloyd Edick an Air Force veteran and city employee died Monday after a cave-in at an 18 foot deep excavation near State and Maple Streets. Barber witnessed sand slides then a basin fell pinning Edick. Despite crane rescue and hospital care he died at Clare General Hospital after multiple fractures. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Clare.

The Rosebush Rural Agricultural School opens at 9 a m Tuesday September 7 for enrollment. A half day session is planned for Tuesday with full day sessions starting September 8. Mrs C C Williams Dies After Illness in Midland
Mrs C C Williams 62 died at Midland Hospital Monday evening after two years of health problems. She lived in Clare briefly and visited her sister Mrs C W Nash in Midland. Funeral services were held in Midland on Thursday September 2 with interment in Grayling cemetery beside her husband. Mrs Nash has been in Owosso the past week and attended the services from Clare with Mr and Mrs Frank Nash.

Thief Steals Check and Cash From Elm Grove Owner
Mrs. Lucille Hess reports a theft Friday evening from her Elm Grove home. A dillfold containing a $48.88 check and about $20 in cash vanished from her apron pocket while she slept at her grandchildren’s home about a mile from the store. The theft was reported to the county sheriff Saturday morning. A $20 church gift had been made shortly before.

Fire department was called at 9 50 a m to a kitchen grease fire on Hast Seventh Street. A pan of hot grease ignited flames and smoke damaged cupboards and walls, causing about 200 dollars in damage. Stanley Parish, fire chief, cited smoke as the main damage factor.
