Clare Pioneer football opens first Mid-Michigan Class B season

Wilton Laverty Dies After Route 27 Auto Crash
Wilton Laverty 33 assistant plant superintendent at Clare Manufacturing Co died at Smith Memorial Hospital Alma after a car left Route 27 foggy night near Ithaca. The case of two teenage boys involved in the August 8 Lincoln township school wreck is held open. Probate Judge George Bates noted the parents are ill and cannot attend hearings. A preliminary hearing has occurred. one defendant is fifteen and the other sixteen. The judge said he was impressed by the boys’ recognition of their misbehavior.

Grass Fire Near Randall School Put Out By Rain
Clare Fire Department responded to a grass fire north of town near Randall School. A broken 11 000 volt Consumer power line sparked a tree and started the fire, but rain extinguished it before firefighters arrived. Power workers shut off the line and will repair damage. Stanley Parish urges reporting grounded lines to the local Consumers Power Office.

Women Golfers Buy Trophies At Twin Elms Meeting
