Indian girl dies in fatal house fire near Clare
A nine room farm house on the Frank Er nest estate near Clare burned Wednesday evening. Three year old Roberta Fisher died from second degree burns after crude oil exploded in a heating stove. Her mother Odear Fisher and the family escaped with severe burns. The father Edmund Fisher and six other children survived as Clare firefighters battled the blaze with the aid of a rural truck. State Police from Mt. Pleasant investigated the fire.

Henry Post 61 and wife Angeline 45 died from burns after a kerosene accident in their paper covered home ten miles west of Clare in Surrey township. Their children Marvin 5 and Mary Catherine 17 perished later in hospital. four other boys survived. Fourteen members of the Young Ladies Red Cross Sewing Unit met in the Clare City Legion rooms for a work session. New members this week include Mrs Virginia Maxwell Mrs Georgia Vilters Mrs Hisie Meyers Mrs June Haines and Mrs Elaine Green. The group invites others to join and plans weekly meetings. The unit helps working women contribute to the service effort with sewing and care item production. Next meet is Wednesday at seven in the Legion rooms followed by a Monday session the next week.
