United War Fund Makes Progress in Local Drive

The Clare County United War Fund drive shows strong progress with several communities oversubscribing quotas. Temple and Redding townships led with $500.75 raised toward $440, aided by Purcell Company leaders. Frost township reports $66.10 from a chicken supper and auction, with a pot luck supper expected to push oversubscription. Clare city has surpassed its $2,750 quota, though final totals were not yet in. National Legion Chaplain Father John F. McManus urges WWI veterans to support the drive as patriotic duty and Christian charity. The USO will receive almost 50 percent of the National War Fund to aid service members, with details on how funds are spent including club facilities, records, and outpost entertainments.
