Women golfers met at Twin Elms Clubhouse on Tuesday October 26 for their annual banquet and officer elections. Josephine Anderson was elected president with Minnie Manee treasurer and Margaret Weherty the sports chair. Annabélie Hampton was handicap chair and club champion. Prizes were awarded to Annabelle Hampton Lucille Haley Beulah Caple and others before a post event gathering at the Ideal Theatre.

Conservation Dept Studies Habits and Diseases of Wild Fowl
The Department of Conservation aided by local groups and hunters is conducting an intensive study of game birds. Banded wild ducks and pheasants have been released to various state locations and some birds have been shot near Clare. Hunters are asked to report banded birds with shooting location to Lansing or a Rod and Gun club officer. They also should report diseased or worm-infested birds. The Rod and Gun club offers help in reporting.

Clara Keyser's burial rites held in Clare
Clara Lucy Lyons Keyser, born June 5 1869 in Lockport Illinois, moved to Clare area as a child. She married Nial Keyser in 1899 and lived in Flint Michigan until her death October 21 aged 68 years 6 months. Services were in Flint and Clare First Methodist Church, with hymns by Mr and Mrs Loran Birdsall and Mrs David Seil, burial at Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Stevenson Lake near Clare received 5000 bluegill fingerlings last Thursday from Paris Fish Hatchery officials. Planted at Irwin's Landing on the lake's south shore, the stock is expected to grow to regal sizes for anglers in about two seasons, replenishing the large fish seen last season.

Hunter shoots saucy hawk devouring pheasant

Frank Owens, longtime Wise township resident in Isabella County, died at home on Sunday from heart trouble at age 67 years 5 months and 17 days. He was born May 7 1870 in Peck Michigan and married Edith Fish on July 4 1894. Survived by widow Edith and five children including Mrs Earl Hovey and Mrs Tom Ramey, with burial at Loomis cemetery after services at Salem Evangelical Church officiated by Rev C B Wilson.

38 License Tags Go On Sale October 28
Secretary of State Leon B. Case announced that 1938 automobile license plates will go on sale October 28, four months before the deadline. The plates, black and green for new cars, will be sold at all branch offices eight days earlier this year. Half year plates priced 25 cents more under a 1937 act will not be offered until about February 1. Clare county has been allotted small numbers for next year.
