Harold Guy McClung of Detroit was arraigned in Municipal Court on drunk driving after a Cedar Street collision with Walter Broh’s station wagon. McClung pleaded guilty, fined $50 plus $3.50 costs, ordered to pay $119 in damages, and surrendered his license.

Robert Dunigan born January 22 1867 in Newton Robison Ontario died October 14 1948 at 81 8 22. He moved to Clare in 1881 and farmed in Gilmore township. Survived by wife Hannah five children Roy Florence Charlotte Henrietta Laura and fourteen grandchildren. Funeral 2:00 pm at Gilmore Church of Christ conducted by Rev Carlyle Watterworth. Interment Gilmore Cemetery Mt. Pleasant Stinson's handled arrangements.

John Becker born March 4 1870 in Ripin Poland died October 14 1948 at his Clare County home. He married Pauline Nass in 1899 and left three sons and a daughter, William Arthur Jacob Rose Rountree, plus five grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral services were held October 17 at St John By Lutheran Church Hamilton township. Burial followed in Arthur township church cemetery.

Clare Chapter No. 29 of the American Gold Star Mothers held its first regular meeting Friday October 15 in the Legion Auxiliary room with good attendance. Three Harrison Gold Star Mothers were present. New member Mrs F C Sanford was welcomed. The group voted to meet the first Wednesday of each month at 8 00 pm in Legion Auxiliary rooms and planned a pie social Friday October 29 with pumpkin pie and free coffee.

Spike Horn Receives Jail Sentence in Justice Court

Proposed Amendments to Be Voted At General Election
Voters will decide on amendments in the November 2, 1948 election. Proposal No 2 seeks to repeal Section 23, Article 10 and Section 28 of Article 10 to end the one cent sales tax return to local units and fund annual school district grants from general funds.
Proposed Amendment On officer compensation to be set by law
A 1948 extra session joint resolution seeks to amend section 21 of article 6 to allow the governor secretary of state state treasurer auditor general and attorney general to have compensation set by law and not changed during their term. The current reading would fix annual salaries at 5000 for governor and attorney general and 2500 for other listed officers with no fees. The legislature could not increase these salaries.
