Two Young Men Arrested Friday by Sheriff Bates
Phil Geeck reported a valuable five month old Holstein bull worth 75 dollars killed in his pasture. George Pemberton aged 26 of Grant Township and Russell Leiter aged 21 of Barryton were arrested by Sheriff Bates and Deputy Clute on larceny charges. They pled guilty and were bound over to circuit court with bail set at 300 dollars.

Midland Circuit Judge Ray Hart presided at a Clare County session last Tuesday. Earl M. Davis, jailed for bootlegging, was fined fifty dollars and one hundred dollars costs or six to twelve months in Jackson State Prison. Frederick Nehils and Bernard Kirkpatrick admitted probation violations and were ordered to report to the deputy and probation officers for a November termination hearing.

Last Rites for L E Slater Held Monday Afternoon
Louis Ernest Slater born in Germany August 24 1868 lived a long pioneer life in the Northland. He married Mary Zimmerman and raised six children. He served in country offices for eighteen years and died last Friday. Funeral services were held at Thurston Funeral Home Monday afternoon with Rev M R Honderich officiating and Cherry Grove interment.

Dr A Donders Dies At Home At 105
Dr Albert Donders longtime local physician died at his home near Hight Point Lake on October 10. Born in Amsterdam September 5 in an unknown year he was a veteran of the Spanish American War and served in Europe. Aged about 105 he married Elisabeth Barnes of Sears about 30 years ago and had five children. Funeral services were held at Gleaner hall Lake and burial occurred at Evart. Dr Hoveter of Hvart led the service. The community extends sympathy to the family.

Auto Crash Near Clare Injures Five
Five people were injured in a two car collision two miles east of Clare on US 10 Monday evening. Joe Murphy Sr crossed from the south, causing the crash with Carl Schroeder’s car carrying A B Hansen, Wm Van Aulstine, and Nettie Hansen. One and a half spins left both cars damaged. injuries included a broken collar bone and fractured ribs. All patients treated at Clare County General Hospital. Mrs Murphy escaped with minor bruises.

Open Safety Pin Passes Safely Through Child
Mr and Mrs Wm A Gaple received word Tuesday that their daughter Beulah Hlaine of Sagimaw was taken home from St. Mary's hospital after an open safety pin swallowed last week passed through her body. The one year old child was treated with constant care by hospital staff during the ordeal.
