The Reverend Chas Spohn and family traveled from Greenwood township to Sandusky Michigan last Sunday to hunt pheasants. There he met Hal Newhouser, Tiger pitcher, who hunted with him and his friends. Hal signed autographs at a hunters roundup for the Veterans Memorial Home before returning to Detroit to build a home.

Veteran Counselor Addresses PTA at Clare High

Clare Honor Roll erected in city park tribute to county servicemen
The Clare honor roll honoring about one thousand county residents who served in the armed forces stands in the city park facing West Fifth Street. Costing 1000 dollars, funded by the Clare Common Council and Clare County Board of Supervisors, the tribute was designed by Herbert Randall and his son, with Moline Construction as contractor. The display lists twenty one notes by young women among the names, and residents are asked to submit missing names with rank and home address to City Clerk Alex McKinnon.

Grand Chapter Convocation Held in Grand Rapids

Army Recruiting Officer to Visit Clare Post Office
Lt. Woodrow Ware of the Bay City Recruiting Office announced that from October 24 a recruiting man will be at the Clare post office every Wednesday to take Army enlistment applications. Matie E. Hinds born December 19, 1867 in Stanton Michigan daughter of Frederick and Mary Pepper Hinds pioneers of Farwell passed away Saturday October 13 1945 at the home of Mr and Mrs Hol Brooks in Stanton where she had lived since spring She taught music served as church organist and was known as Auntie Opdyke She later married A Hunter and lived in Stanton until his death in 1929 She worked as a bookkeeper and in the Montcalm County Probate Office before illness and was buried October 16 Riverside Cemetery Alma with a bank of flowers attending from distant places including Anna Hinds Loren Phelps and family from Kalamazoo.
