Four soldiers are discharged after service in World War II. 1st Sgt. Leon Stanley of Fort McClellan Alabama earned 84 points with the Purple Heart Infantry Combat Badge Good Conduct Medal Bronze Star and four battle stars for forty months in service including thirteen in the European Theater. Pfc Jerome C Flood of Vernon township discharged with 103 points to his credit after three years five months and twenty days of service in Germany Normandy and other fronts. he will work his father’s Vernon farm. S/Sgt Neil G Sowle of Clare discharged from the AAFS at Sheppard Field with honors. he returns to Clare and previously worked at Clare Motor Sales and Ferris Institute and served in Africa and the European Theater with one battle star.

S/ Sgt Fred Fisher received his honorable discharge September 29 at Indiantown Gap Pa after four years and six months of service including eighteen months overseas in England France Belgium Luxembourg and Germany He helped flatten the bulge near Bastogne last winter He returned August 19 aboard the Fayetteville Victory and joined his wife Patricia Cour September 30 at her mother's home in Newport News He has the Good Conduct ribbon Silver Star Medal and citation for gallantry near Würzburg Germany and wears five battle stars on his ETO ribbon.

Mrs Henrette House Dies After Long Illness
Funeral in Methodist Church for Mrs Henretta House who died Friday October 5 after over a year of illness. Burial at Mt Pleasant cemetery. Born February 16 1868 in Round Plains Canada she moved to Rosebush with family. She married Ferdinand G House in 1888 and had six children. She served as past president of the Woman's Society for Christian Service and belonged to the Rebekah lodge.

Early gun accidents spark safety warnings for youths

United War Fund Drive Opens in Clare County
