The Clare Fire Department rushed to the Wayside Inn near the union depot at 8 05 am rescuing the White House Hotel from a basement furnace room fire. Dense smoke required gas masks before crews contained the blaze causing only hundreds in damage after recent sale to Mr and Mrs Lewis Fjelland. A second call at 10 45 pm Sunday reported a Model A Ford fire on North McEwan Street burning wiring. firefighters arrived to extinguish it.
