Michigan reports 173 deaths and 20 million dollars in home fire losses last year. Det. Capt. Glenroy M. Walker urges common sense precautions during Fire Prevention Week October 7 to 13. He notes 19 245 home fires, 30 percent of all fires, with 114 adult and 59 child fatalities. Principal hazards include matches, smoking, heating tools, electrical misuse, hot ashes, faulty chimneys, kitchen dangers, and flammable liquids.
