War Loan Show Spurs Bond Sales in Clare

The Third War Loan Victory Show at the Ideal Theatre in Clare drew a large crowd and netted 20 005 00 in War Savings Bonds. The event honored local contributors and raised substantial support for the campaign, with auctions and premiums donated by businesses and residents.

Farwell lumber manager loses fingers in saw accident

Don R. Luce, manager of Farwell Lumber Company, was injured Tuesday when his left hand was cut by a power saw in the woodworking shop. The little finger was severed the third finger was cut above the middle joint and the middle finger lacerated. He was treated at Central Michigan Community Hospital Mt Pleasant and is recovering at home unable to work for some time.

Fisherman and Hunter Fined For Game Violations

Simon Cudney of Marion was fined five dollars plus costs after pleading guilty to fishing in the Muskegon river without a license. Clifford Hadley of Ewart faced trial for shooting ducks after sunset and paid ten dollars plus costs after pleading guilty.

Early Settler Dora Colmus Dies at 63 in Detroit

Dora Helen Colmus born September 22 1880 daughter of Peter and Catherine Colmus at Burnside Lapeer county died September 27 1943 at Sisters Hospital Detroit aged 63. She moved to Grant township as a child and married Herbert Storrs in 1805 producing four sons and two daughters. Funeral held at Doherty Funeral Home and St Cecilia's Church with Rev Fr Stanley Morrison. procession from Flint Saginaw Pontiac Clio and Detroit relatives attended.

Wilma Allen Becomes County Public Health Nurse

Mrs. Oliver McKinstry brought a potato to the Sentinel office on Thursday, found on the Ferguson ranch in Garfield Township. The vegetable is described as perfectly shaped and pointed toward victory.

Hampton Wins Dow A C Golf Championship

Leo Hampton, eight time Twin Elms Club champion, won the Dow Athletic Club championship at Midland Country Club on September 11. He defeated Haycrett Shelton 2 up in the finals after a 74 in qualifying and wins over Fielding H. Yost Jr., Chantler, and Harold Lindsay en route to the title. The trophy will stay in Dow offices until three consecutive wins by one champion.

Frank Calkins Dies Of Heart Attack In Beaverton

Frank Calkins age about 52 a resident east of Loomis collapsed from a heart attack on Beaverton streets at 9 Tuesday morning. He was born in Rosebush and lived near Clare. Funeral held at Thurston Funeral Home at 2 pm Thursday with Rev. Wesley Teale of Loomis officiating and interment in Cherry Grove Cemetery. Life story to be published next week.

Etta D Green dies at her Lake area home

Mrs. Etta D. Green died Sunday evening at her farm near Lake Clare County Michigan after a long illness. Born July 1 1870 in Madison county near Plain City Ohio she was 73. She married Henry L. Green in 1888 and had four sons and a daughter. Survivors include four sons Harry Charles Ted and Elmer ten grandchildren nine great grandchildren two brothers Carl and Pearl Patch and many relatives. Funeral was Tuesday at 2 06 PM at the Clare Methodist church with Rev Charles B Hahn officiating and burial in Lake cemetery.

Joseph W. Ramsey of the War Production Board outlined a Clare County scrap drive targeting ninety tons of scrap metal and thirteen tons of salvaged tin as part of a national effort. Tin cans will be collected October 23 by city trucks. other metals? paper? collections run October 25–30 with Boy Scouts. households urged to prepare cans and keep papers separate.

Three Injured in Saturday Evening Auto Crash

A head on collision three miles west of Clare on US-10 in Grant township injured Ernest Orton his son Junior and Gladys Marcinkewciz at 11 45 pm. Ernest Orton suffered a fractured leg chest injuries and scalp lacerations and was later released. Junior had a scalp wound and minor injuries while Mrs Marcinkewiz received lacerations to knee wrists and nose. Vehicle damage totaled 300 for the Orton car and 400 for the Marcinkewiz car. State Police Mt Pleasant post investigated.

Beaverton Boy Wounded by Shotgun Accident

Lester E. Randall eight from Beaverton township was shot in the temple and hand when his five year old brother Ross discharged a shotgun they found in a cedar chest. Sheriff Kelly called the incident accidental as the three children were left home alone by anxious parents on a Clare business trip.

Ram rambling sale at Schug farm next Wednesday noon

Sheep owners from Clare, Midland and Osceola counties can select a purebred ram from a 75 head load consigned by the Michigan Sheep Breeders Association. The ram truck from Hast Lansing arrives about noon at Schug farm, 1 1/2 miles north and 1/4 mile west of Clare, for trading Hampshires, Oxfords and Shropshires with additional breeds available by request. Former Clare mail carrier dies in Charlotte at fifty two

Cal Terwilliger, a former rural mail carrier from Clare, died in Charlotte on Wednesday night at age fifty two after a heart attack. Funeral services were held there Saturday. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Grant Terwilliger and brother and sister in law Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Durcan attended. Farwell Boy Scout Troop No ALS meets every Monday at 209 oclock.
