A wartime notice reports the War Food Administration ending rationing and distribution controls for farm machinery and equipment except corn pickers. Items released include tractors, balers, rakes, loaders, combines, spreaders, planters, diggers, mowers, drills, and related gear. Dealers are to be notified and newspaper announcements made. Butter boosted to twenty points on Sunday rationing
OPA increased the point value of creamery butter to 20 points effective Sunday with three additional red rationing stamps for meats cheese butter canned fish and canned milk. The change may last through December as butter supply lag remains. A separate note says more low cost candy prices are set and another shoe stamp becomes valid November 1. Byrnes also stated coffee rationing is not needed now.

William Earl Skinner dies in Harrison at 83
Five Warden Earl Skinner longtime Clare county resident dies at his Harrison home Friday. Born August 20, 1897 in Tuscola county he moved to Leota as a boy and later to Harrison. He served the Conservation Department many years and was fire warden of northern Clare county at his death. He leaves a wife Marie six children and several siblings. Funeral services held Monday at his home with Elder David Bailey officiating.

Lieutenant Schaaf Survives Ambush Near Pisa Italy
First Lieutenant John A Schaaf of Clare Michigan and two 34th Red Bull Division soldiers were ambushed along the Arno below Pisa. He shot a kneeling figure and another attacker as a trap killed one doughboy. an American patrol later annihilated the German party. Schaaf, 24, married to Leona Schaaf, joined the service in 1941 and served since Africa 1943.
