Clare dominated Shepherd High 39 to 0 in a one sided football game. Shepherd failed to gain a first down as Clare moved the ball through the line and ends with multiple first downs and touchdowns in the first three quarters.
Mrs. Rudolph Hildebrandt aged lived in Sheridan township died September 28 1928 at her home. Augusta Allen eldest daughter of Albert and Augusta Allen born July 8 1883 survived by husband Rudolph Hildebrandt two children Florence and Frances parents four sisters three brothers and extended relatives. Funeral by Rev Frank Bates and Rev Chas Kleinhart held at Cherry Grove Cemetery with many relatives attending from Detroit Ann Arbor Bay City Marshall Charlotte Alma and other towns.
A benefit dance will be held at the I O Hall in Farwell on Friday evening October 12. Everyone is invited to attend for a good cause and enjoy the event.
The O Clare Good Literature Club announced Miss Yvonne Page of Wayne P. Sewall Lyceum and Production Co will stage Cupid Up-to-Date. Twenty-five local children join in singing and acting as stars with a chorus of modern chickens moonbeams monkeys clocks and crossword puzzles. The production promises a $10 entertainment value and a chance to relax and save a doctor's bill.
Levi G Priest born September 1842 in Licking County Ohio died September 26 1928 aged 86 years 19 days. He served three years in Co A 76th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War and married twice Mrs Sarah Ann McQueen and later Mrs Sarah M Southard. Survived by two daughters Golda and Leona Roe a step-daughter Mae Gerow a sister Mrs Alson Johnson and many grandchildren. Funeral held Sunday afternoon at Loomis L D S church with Rev Frank Bates officiating.
Royal Arch Masons night in Farwell featured three candidates receiving the Royal Arch degree. Grand Chapter representatives Elgin Mifflin George W. Leedle and L. H. Lambie assisted in the Farwell lodge of instruction with Mt. Pleasant as a guest. Candidates Fred Schaaf Newton Kress Oscar Kube. Grand Lecturer spoke on capitular Masonry and shared a travelogue. Refreshments were served and visitors spoke from Midland and Mt. Pleasant.
We thank relatives neighbors and friends for sympathy and floral offerings during the death of our wife and mother. We also thank the singers Rev Frank Bates and Chas Kleinhardt for comforting words Rudolph Hildebrandt and family.
Officials of the State Tax Commission visited Farwell to resolve a dispute over taxing the Pere Marquette rail road ice houses. The township asserts exemption and local taxation, while the railroad argues for utility classification. Commission ruled the railroad may sell surplus ice and the property cannot be taxed locally.
Walter A. Larman post of the American Legion elected H. G. Johnston as commander for the coming year. Johnston served in France as a first lieutenant. other officers named include Henry Weiber, Leo Oden, Howard Brown, N. L. Tibbits, and William Holmes. The post agreed to buy overseas style caps engraved with the post name and number.
A series of cooperative religious meetings begins Sunday October 7 at 2 30 p m at Chippewa Pines. Rev Hiram A Pegg of St Louis will deliver an illustrated Bible lecture and the Smith Trio will sing. Meeting schedule continues for three Sundays with inviting fall scenery and open attendance for all faiths. Location 13 4 miles south of the M 20 sign between Mt Pleasant and Midland.
Eugene Foster editor of the Gladwin County Record was found dead at his desk Tuesday morning. He had served the paper since 1878 with his brother and is survived by his widow a brother and a sister. The Sentinel extends sympathy to the family.
Guild members are to prepare rummage items for a sale scheduled this Friday afternoon.
News of the death of Mrs. Fred Lamphere came from Lansing where she had been in poor health for years. The body will be brought to Wise to the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Lamphere for services Saturday.
The United States Army band with many Pershing era members will perform two concerts in Mt Pleasant on Tuesday October 23 under the Mt Pleas ant Chamber of Commerce. General Pershing praised the band noting its quality and impact on American military music and expressing pride in its public performances.
Grant township in Clare county and Vernon township in Isabella county appealed to the state tax commission over school tax assessments in the Clare school district. Township and city ward supervisors traditionally meet in executive session to apportion taxes, but this year the towns sought a hearing after dissatisfaction with the adjustment. Three commission members were in the city and hinted at a possible hearing later in the week.
We are very grateful to all friends who were kind and helpful throughout the sickness and passing of Karl Gordiner, Mrs. Karl Gordineer and daughter Betty.
Clare Study Club members hosted Prof and Mrs Larzelere of Mt. Pleasant last Tuesday. He described their Holy Land trip noting climate, sparse vegetation, and Jerusalem’s wall and gates. He contrasted postwar building outside the walls with limited inside city traffic and Jewish population patterns.
Red Cross committees will canvass cities and villages to meet the Clare county quota for hurricane relief. C H Carpenter leads Harrison area while Mrs U E Lamb and others cover Clare and surrounding towns. Contributions may be mailed to the Sentinel office in Clare. Each county teacher urged to raise at least one dollar. funds go to food clothing medical care and home rebuilding in the hurricane district.
The Good Literature Club held its October 1 meeting at Mrs. Doris Ann Bicknell's home with a program led by Mrs. Adelaide Hiden. Miss Hardie spoke on short stories, Mrs. Hiden read The Shipwrecked Sailor, and Mrs. Mercer discussed American Cut Glass. The next meeting, October 15, will be at Mrs. Mack's home. members should bring a current topic. A correction note adds that Mrs. Mack’s prior paper Our Club Ideals was omitted.
Mrs M P Sowle thanks friends for cheery letters cards flowers and gifts received while at the hospital. She also expresses gratitude to the Sheridan Baptist Ladies Aid for the potted plants.
The Clare Chamber of Commerce votes to hold its first meeting Monday evening October 8 chaired by T. Carl Holbrook. A dinner at Barnes Cafeteria at 6:30 precedes the session and includes plans for rural community meetings and fall activities. The Chamber hopes its band will attend.
Judson E. Wolford died at his Lyons home early Friday morning September 21, aged 10 years 10 months 23 days from pernicious anemia after a long illness. He was born October 28, 1867 in Sumner Gratiot county and worked in telegraphy before teaching. He married Inez L. Smith November 7, 1900. The couple lived in Collins Lyons Marion Alma and finally Lyons again. He leaves his widow his mother Mrs. Emily A. Wolford a sister and a brother Jesse E. Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev A. T. Halstead and Rev B. H. O. Mather.
On Thursday September 27 at Rev. Frank Bates home a marriage united Clarence Davis and Stella Bruckart. The couple was supported by attendants Hilda Armentrout and Ray Strouse. The bride, active in church work, and groom, a young farmer, receive best wishes.
Mrs A Byba thanks the Rebekah lodge and all for flowers letters and cards that brightened her hospital stay. She thanks the Auxiliary and everyone who helped at her home and expresses gratitude.
Funeral services for Karl Gordineer were held from his parents’ home with Rev. H B Johnson officiating. John Q Lock Lodge F and A M led the service at Cherry Grove Cemetery. Gordineer, born May 12 1895 in Clare, worked in Midland and Alpena before illness led him to seek health in New Mexico and back to Clare where he died September 27. He was a Mason and longtime outdoors enthusiast, survives widow and daughter Betty, plus his mother and many relatives and friends. A large out-of-town contingent attended.

The Lovelorn starring Sally O Neill appears with Beatrice Fai rfaxe advising lovers. Clara Bow headlines Ladies of the Mob with non stop action and outlaw romance. Clyde Cook leads Good Time Charlie with The Collegians. Ramona and The Goods come later. Sorrel and Son slated for November.
