Amanwala Khan, West Pakistan secretary, visited Clare county to study U S extension service and rural aid. He met County Agent Richard Schroeder and plans a VOA feature. he will later aid training centers in West Pakistan for rural workers.
A car stolen from Lansing was found by Clare Police in a Beech Street parking lot after staying parked for days. The incident showed the parked car owned by Ronald Geeck, Coleman, with right front damage on the other vehicle caused by a pickup driven by Christopher Rock, Harrison, who swerved to avoid a child. Rock passed a vision test.
The Department Service Office of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold Service Schools of Instruction in the area on October 2 3 4 and 10 1957. Veterans and dependents are urged to attend sessions at Clare Post 5733 October 3 and Harrison Post 1075 October 4 both at 7 30 p m. Topics include Veterans Administration hospitalization compensation pension widow benefits GI loans and GI insurance.
Clare City Commission approves drafting a proposal to transfer Millpond property to a development backers committee on a conditional deed. A special fall election will ask taxpayers to approve the plan. Committee officers include Ken Barnes chair Earl Baumgarth Dale Stough and Esther Gilson.
Clare will receive $200 worth of new outdoor decorations before the Christmas season and about $50 annually for added materials. The City Commission pledged funds to expand the existing display, with decorations installed and stored by the city through the year until the Yule season.
Reports from Harrison on September 30 announce re-election of Fiorent J. Pudway chair man Sheridan township John A. Bringold Greenwood township and Wilbur Phelipp Winterfield township as ASC committee members. The new committee takes office October 1 for one year with Richard Schroeder county agricultural agent as ex-officio member.

Polesnek, 36, Lincoln Park, fled after failing to appear for a Clare County Circuit Court trial on looting a Little Long Lake cottage August 23. A $2,500 bond reverted to the county. An alert to locate Polesnek went to state and federal agencies. He was captured, fled Detroit, and had prior prison time in Kentucky and Oklahoma authorities noted.
Michigan has paid over a million dollars in bounties since 1947 to curb red foxes, coyotes, wolves and bobcats with little effect. Records show fox numbers stay steady or rise while bounty takers remove surplus animals each year. The coyote population has remained around 2,000 since 1944, despite ongoing payouts.
Clare High School opened the 1957 football season with a 40-7 win over Michigan Lutheran Seminary at home. Deb Nolan and Tom Garver starred, with Dick Roe’s passing and Larry Stanley’s late TD highlight a strong Pioneer performance. Clare's next game travels to Ithaca on October 4 at 8 PM.
World Wide Communion Sunday is observed next Sunday October 6 in many denominations. The Riverside Grange near Clare Michigan wins second place in the National Grange Sears Roebuck Community Service Contest for actions helping local families. Members assisted the Wood family after Jean Wood’s injury, provided meals, transport, and chores, aided Cecil Rowley after a heart attack, repaired cemetery grounds, and organized charity drives and educational talks in the district comprising Clare Gladwin Isabella Midland Bay and Saginaw counties.
Sixty members and guests met at Clare Methodist Church for a program on a European holiday. Joyce Delamarter and Olive Evans presented slides from a German exchange trip with 88 Michigan students, plus Sorbonne study in Paris by Evairis. The club supported Crippled Children's Fund, donated to the milk fund, and listed meetings in Community Calendar.
Three Grand Ledge youths Stanley Cooper 20 Francis Tebo 26 and two girls one a minor are lodged in Clare County Jail on 10000 bond awaiting Clare County Circuit Court appearances on breaking and entering charges. They allegedly looted about 300 worth of goods from 13 cottages near Long Lake with property damage estimated higher. The minor was released to Eaton County juvenile authorities while the others face 60 days in jail for delinquency charges.
Public school students will get a long weekend this week with dismissal times Thursday through Monday. The district closes Friday October 4 for a Michigan Education Association meeting in Midland. Convention sessions will be held at Midland High School.
Sentinel sportswriter Bernie Wilson and his arch rival Mr XX will test their win predictor skills on the Mid Michigan high school league this week and also try calling college games before they are played. Their Sports Page picks show Clare over Ithaca as their first choice. Bernie holds a .647 accuracy while Mr XX leads by a length at .793.
Clare County Ministerial Association schedules its first fall gathering at Arthur Center Church of God on Tuesday October 8 at 10 a.m. The event includes a devotional led by Rev. Floyd Bontarger and a keynote by Rev. E O Burk. A business session will elect a Secretary Treasurer. lunch follows with reservations due by Monday noon October 4.
