Sale of cattle hay and grain at Farwell farm auction

James E. Fordyce will sell at public auction on December 4 at his Farwell area farm in Gilmore township. The sale includes 6 head of cows 15 young cattle all tested sows 6 pigs 20 baled alfalfa hay and 400 bushels oats. Sale starts 12 30 p m. Trapping Enthusiasm Sustains Aged Civil War Vet

John Ford, a ninety year old Civil War veteran, purchased a trappers license this fall and maintains a four mile trap line for muskrats. He travels daily to check dozens of traps near Glare in Fordville, recalling a long life of hunting and outdoor activity. He married Susie Wright last May and remains healthy aside from occasional rheumatism, hoping to reach a century.

Vernon Farm Home Burns Sunday

The brick residence of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Duncan burned completely last Sunday. Two-thirds of first floor goods were saved while the second floor suites for five sleeping rooms were lost. Origin undetermined as fire started away from the chimney. Clare rural fire department delayed by a broken telephone. rear buildings saved and barn flames checked. Loss estimated $5000 with $1800 insured on the building and $1500 on personal effects.

News arrives of the marriage between Clyde Brown and Miss Madge Balkema in Grand Rapids last Thursday November 22. Clyde is the son of Mr and Mrs M B Brown and a 1926 graduate who studied at C S T College in Mt Pleasant. They will reside in Grand Rapids where Clyde works as a wood finisher.

Walter Petit of the Wild Wood Shop displays a unique table lamp shaped like an old well carved from ash root. Green moss clings to the bark while sun formed natural stains add color. Pettit also makes lamps and bird houses drawing tourists to his shop near Tobacco River.

Dover Couple Hurt In Route From Funeral Crash

Dover correspondent reports Mr and Mrs Josh Mizer were injured when a Whippet driven motorist slowed to turn causing their Ford coupe to crash en route home from a funeral. Mrs Mizer suffered a cracked pelvis. both were attended by Dr Clute and later cared for by their daughter Esther and their Cadillac son.

B N Mercer and Rev H B Johnson shot an eight point deer on a first hunting trip near Rose City. They traveled from Clare with Wm Warner to Twin Lakes area and the deer was killed after a long stalk. One bullet grazed the back, the other pierced the heart. Both men are eager to recount the hunt.

Clare high school seniors staged a three act comedy The Haunted House drawing a full house on Friday night. Eight cast members delivered confident performances with minimal prompting and strong enunciation. The plot centers on a presumed haunted country home where a murder is investigated by a neighborhood author a constable and a detective ending with the revelation the woman lives and the milk man loses his cow. Proceeds fund class expenses and a school memorial.

Twofold purpose of Christmas seals in Michigan
