Hunting Season Fatalities Near Last Year Total
The 1946 Michigan deer season had twenty four hunter deaths by Saturday with nine gunfire fatalities and eight from heart attacks or exposure. One case involved a hunter shot by another on opening day. another man died from gunshot wounds not counted in the deer toll. A separate incident reported Florence Jeffrey injured by a stray bullet near Clare. Robert B. Goudy was wounded by a rifle shot in Big Willow Swamp and expected to recover after hospital care.

1947 Michigan license plates go on sale in December
Michigan motorists will begin purchasing the 1947 black on orange license plates in December from Secretary of State offices. About 2.5 million vehicles are expected to carry the plates by February 28, with a $20 million manufacturing and sale cost. Plates are single this year, with a potential return to double plates next year if steel shortages ease. Production at the Jackson state prison stamping plant employs about 200 inmates under Fred Munnell to stamp, enamel, and pack plates and prepare for 1948 plates.

Jim McConnell and his son Mathew were injured Tuesday while clearing land near US-27. Caps used to set off dynamite discharged from a paper sack, wounding Mathew more severely and causing removal to Saginaw General after treatment at Clare Hospital. Jim sustained hand cuts.

Holbrook Seeks Circuit Judge Post In 21st District
Clare attorney Donald E. Holbrook earned unanimous endorsement from the Clare County Bar Association for Circuit Judge of the 21st Judicial Circuit comprising Midland Clare and Isabella Counties. Large number of bears taken this hunting season
