Sugar price controls to extend through 1947 says OPA
Government agencies keep sugar under price control and rationing into 1947. The C F Smith Co was found guilty of rationing violations tied to a large sugar shortage, and 305 of 315 Detroit area stores were suspended from handling sugar for 30 days with 60 days probation. OPA boosted raw sugar by 36.5 cents per 100 pounds and semi refined sugars by 40 cents, adding about 50 million dollars to annual food bills, while subsidies on domestic sugar will drop.
