Deer Habitat Plan Aims to Boost Michigan Herd by 1980
The Michigan DNR outlines a major habitat program to double the deer herd to 1,000,000 by 1980. Funding rises from 120,000 to about 1,000,000 for habitat work including tree cutting and controlled burns, with license fees directing 1.50 per deer license to range improvements. Mid Forest Ledge in Roscommon shows deer numbers rise with sustained range management, contradicting claims that doe hunting lowers totals.
