Pleased By Deer Permit Demand Plea...
Conservation Department officials are “pleased and encouraged” by public reaction to annual deer season permits. More than 104000 applications for 65340 permits show demand, with about 40000 applicants disappointed. Officials say permits are scientifically allocated on an impartial basis without special hunting privileges. Some criticism favored landowner preference, but verification and equity concerns make such a policy impractical. Area 1 grants preference to farm landowners where crop damage is widespread. others may obtain licenses when damage occurs.
