Deer Hunters Swarm North Over Weekend
Over the weekend a steady stream of deer hunters with trailers and housecars passed through Clare to northern sections including the upper peninsula. The homeward trend continued into Tuesday and Wednesday with hundreds of deer. hunters reported plentiful game in some areas and thick swamps in others. The largest deer, 255 pounds, was shot by Harry Cornell of Lake on Sunday morning. early reports credit Glen Sanford as the first to shoot a deer.

Armistice Day Program Held by Methodist Auxiliary
The Methodist Auxiliary met at Mrs. Jas Olson's home on November 11 for an Armistice Day program. Mrs Mulder led the business session with plans for year ’86 and ’37 including a dinner for husbands and several social events. Mrs D Holbrook presented the Armistice program with devotions, songs, readings by Miss Kennedy and Colette Barnes, a military tap dance by Evelyn Olson, and a Yellow Butterflies narration. Thirty five members and guests enjoyed a tea, with new members welcomed and plans set to meet in two weeks with Mrs Reva Maxwell.

Harry Simpson dies suddenly in Hayes township
Harry Simpson of Hayes township died Monday morning as he prepared breakfast. He had planned to hunt. He previously managed the Wilson State Park club house in Harrison and was active in the American Legion and Masonic order. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 pm with interment in Hayes cemetery. Local Legion members attended the graveside rites.
