Morley Bob Lansing died Wednesday in a Detroit hospital. Funeral from his brother William Lansing's home Friday at 2 PM with burial in Cherry Grove cemetery. He is survived by one sister Mrs Frank Lamphere. Mrs Irvin Cunningham of Grand Rapids, sister of Mrs Frank Jackson of Clare, died Saturday. Jackson, Donald Jones and Jack Jones attended services in Grand Rapids. Funeral Monday afternoon at Restlawn Cemetery.

High Winds Cause Damage In Central Michigan
High winds of seventy miles per hour swept central Michigan Tuesday night lowering the Saginaw River water by eighty feet. The Saginaw foundry shut down due to cooling water shortage. trees and utility lines fell across the area. awnings at Clare Furniture, Jackson Meat Market, and The Sentinel office were destroyed. Justice Wim Dunlop sought police help to replace roof tarpaulins at 2:00 AM.

AAA Election Ballots Mailed in Clare County
Ballots for the annual Clare County AAA election are mailed to 540 eligible farmer voters. Voters must return ballots by December 22 with results counted December 23 by an imperial election board in Harrison. The county convention on December 31 will elect a three member committee and two alternates for 1949.

1949 Auto License Plates Go On Sale
The 1949 motor vehicle license plates go on sale Monday January 3 with most buyers waiting until January 8. Dealers may obtain 1949 plates for new cars after December 1 and out of state cars may receive 1949 plates after December 1. Replacement plates until March 1 will be 1948 series unless replacing a 1949 plate. Plates sold at Clare county offices and local agencies in Clare by officials including the Secretary of State branch offices and County Treasurer.

County patrols net twenty three deer violations in Clare
Eight Department of Conservation officers patrolled Clare during deer season. Twenty three arrests were made from Saturday morning to Wednesday night for violations including loaded guns in cars illegal possession of deer hunting without license non resident hunting with a resident license and trapping before the season opened. Additional arrests included A H Boulanger for a loaded sixteen gauge shotgun in a car Vivan Douglas for attempting muskrat theft before season and Richard Medwich for deer hunting without a license all before Justice Dunlop with fines and costs.

Thirteen members of the Clare American Legion Junior Baseball Team, Central Michigan champions, were honored at a Surrey House banquet in Harrison. Dan McDonald sponsored a five course chicken dinner with Ford Motor Company support. Post Commander Mickey McDonald, Walter H. Larman Post, Eugene Campbell, team manager, and the players joined the event. The team received a baseball trophy, and each player earned an individual award with Dunteiker named most valuable player.

Police search for Mt. Pleasant home escapees
Milton Carr 25 and Robert Lang 18 escaped from the Home and Training School at Mt. Pleasant at 7:38 AM. They were seen nearby at 11 AM a mile west and north of Rose Bush in a field. Tracks led two and a half miles north before being lost. A reported missing .22 rifle from Floyd Leiter's home was tied to the escapees. A resident, Lionel Duncan, later reported two suspicious men asking for shelter and food at his farm. Police continued to search the area as details remained unsettled at press time.

Deer hunting traffic toll rises in Mt Pleasant Clare area
In the first days of deer season a rear collision between a 1946 Plymouth driven by Kenneth Ritter and a 1941 Plymouth coach driven by Theodore Surbrook near Harrison injures four. Walton suffers a cracked pelvis and is treated. Surbrook has a broken nose. Other crashes include Albert Meier, Alton Richardson, and a fatal Lansing wreck. State Police investigated and issued summonses.
