Armistice Day Observed at Clare Public School
Armistice Day exercises were held at the Clare high school auditorium arranged by Walter A. Larman Post of the American Legion and the public school. A parade formed at Fourth and McEwan streets led by colors and band followed by Boy Scouts. The program included readings, a tribute by Rev. H. B. Johnson, and chorus and band performances. The day concluded with taps, and local businesses closed 2:15 to 3:15 in tribute to World War I servicemen.

The Rosebush and Center churches trustees and their wives were hosted by Rev and Mrs Whitney at the Rosebush parsonage last Wednesday. Twenty three attended the seven o’clock supper before the annual business meeting electing Spencer Stickie president and Geo Bayliss secretary. A short program of music stories and recitations closed the evening.

Thursday morning Mrs Ruth Hach muth chairman of the annual Red Cross roll call drive reported one hundred ninty eight members enrolled and three dollars received as donations. By two oclock Armistice day they reported seventy memberships with groups canvassing their territories. The top canvassers were Mildred Stirling Francis Koch Clarence Horning and Mabel Dora.

McKnight House Blaze Hits East Seventh Street Home
Fire at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. T. W. McKnight on east Seventh Street caused an estimated five hundred dollars in building damage with furniture and interior decorations a total loss from smoke and water. Firefighters entered the burning home using gas masks as smoke hindered early access and three men were overcome, yet they saved the structure and the loss is covered by insurance.

Severt Severson born in Norway April 16 1868 came to the United States in childhood. He married Josephine Gillsen and had five children Rene McFarland Agnes Gipperich Arling Ola and Harry. He died November 7 1927 at Bay City after a prayerful life. Funeral Thursday at Colonville Church led by Rev W W Hurd with many attending.

Miranda Elizabeth Troup born August 30 1846 in Perry county Ohio died November 9 1927 at her son’s home in Lansing Michigan aged 81 years 2 months 10 days She married David Bender in March 1866 and eight children were born two died in infancy Surviving are six children Ida Wells Del la Listenfeltz Hffie Myers Orville Bender Frank and Clyde Twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren Also many relatives and friends Her body returned to Clare county where Rev Charles Hleinhardt presided at a service in the Arthur town hall with burial in Arthur cemetery.

Sixty men from Clare traveled to Center Methodist Episcopal Church for a hearty chicken dinner as part of the Goodfellowship series sponsored by the Clare Chamber of Commerce.
