New Filling Station Set to Open November 20
A new filling station at the corner of east Sixth and McEwan streets by Haley and Groves will open about November 20. The tile building measures twenty by twenty feet with a front canopy and stucco finish, four teen foot drives, air scales, a 3000 gallon gasoline storage, separate restrooms, oil burner heat, and hot and cold water. Shel products will be sold and the venture is funded by Haley and Groves, Clare locals educated in the public schools.

Clare High Team Wins Thrilling 12–7 Victory at Evart
In a fast game at Evart last Friday, Clare high school edged Evart 12 to 7. Clare opened with a fake kick drive to the Evart 15 yard line, then scored after a fumble, added a second touchdown in the fourth quarter, while Evart managed only one scoring drive and no first downs after halftime. The contest featured clean play with just one penalty.

Fire dept halves two Saturday car blaze and chimney spark
The fire department was called early Saturday morning to extinguish a Ford roadster owned by Clifford Alger, who works at Clare Guy Mills. The car caught fire under the body as he drove on East Eighth and Hemlock, a bucket brigade held the flames until the crew arrived and the chemicals finished the job. Alger started the engine after the cushion burned and moved the car away. On Wednesday the department also responded to a chimney spark at Alexander J E Wylie’s East Bth Street home with minimal damage.
