A Tuesday evening fire damaged the Lamphere Brothers Garage in Clare beginning above its office area. Firefighters fought the flames amid gas from burning tires and melting batteries. the blaze was confined to the original quarters. Loss estimated at $3,000, fully insured.

Good Literature Club Holds Meeting with Charitable Plan
The Good Literature Club met with Mrs N Trevigno in Tusas for a day evening. A committee was appointed to investigate means of sending Christmas aid to needy children. Current events were read at roll call and a comprehensive parliamentary drill was arranged by Mrs Mack. The club will meet in two weeks with Mrs R Comer.

Mrs. J. W. Calkins Laid To Rest In Clare
The burial of Mrs. J. W. Calkins followed in Cherry Grove cemetery after a Saturday service. Born Mary Callum in Canada on September 12 1850 she arrived in Clare Michigan in 1870 and with husband John W. Calkins ran the Catkins House hotel until a 1920 fire. She died November 10 1921 at age 70 and is mourned by husband Charles W. Calkins son and an Ohio brother James Callum.
