Yarn Mart Open House At Clare's New Store

Clare's Yarn Mart opened at 601 1/2 McEwan, occupying the former City Library site below Maxwell's Gift Shop. The interior includes a Paris Sidewalk Cafe for knitting classes and book browsing, with plant motifs, mahogany furniture, and a display of 13 handmade sweaters. Mrs. Frieda Yate led the event, with six sweaters by her and seven loaned by Spinnerin urn company. Coffee and refreshments were offered. The shop specializes in yarns, instruction books, and knitting kits.

The Clare Public School project advances with floors partitions and interior finishing in progress. Clark Ackley reports to the Board of Education, including a new math teacher David Gloss starting with the new semester. The district seeks 67500 dollars borrowing against State Aid, plans a new driver training car, sells an unused 10000 gallon fuel oil tank and about 3500 gallons of fuel oil. Citizens State Bank Granted Full Trust Powers in Michigan

Stuart Bicknell of Citizens State Bank announces approval to exercise full trust powers effective November 6 1962. The Michigan State Banking Department and the Federal Reserve Board authorized the expansion, enabling trustee, executor, guardian, and fiduciary roles plus estate management services in central Michigan. The bank, founded March 1909, enters its 54th year next March and operates a Rose Bush branch with Frank LaGoe named trust officer.

The Clare Kiwanis club sponsors a reward trip this month for six outstanding 4-H members to the International Livestock and Horse Show in Chicago. Helen Penrose heads the beef division, with Evelyn Ferneda Katharine Krawczynski and Roxanne Schroeder also listed. Clare County 4-H leaders will accompany two leaders and five members, with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Schunk as leaders and chaperones.

Michigan Looks to Add 150 State Police for Freeways

The Michigan traffic safety committee urges boosting state police strength on expressways to curb rising deaths and injuries. Chief Frederick J. Serra of Mount Morice says expanding expressways and aiding other agencies justify adding 150 troopers, bringing authorized strength to 1,305 out of 1,155. The request, part of next fiscal year budget, follows a 1956 expansion and ongoing patrol shortfall with 725 troopers available in 1962.
