Accident Sends Two To Hospital In Michigan Collision

An accident last Wednesday on M-115 near Farwell left Bay City residents Mrs. Laura Knowles and her husband Robert Knowles with serious injuries after their car sideswiped a westbound semi. The couple were airlifted to Bay City for treatment after initial care at Clare General Hospital.

State Police from Mt. Pleasant Post investigate a break-in at Lower's Lake 13 Grocery owned by Robert Lower. Thieves battered the door late Saturday night or early Sunday and stole eight cases of beer 21 cartons of cigarets and some food.

Conservation Regions To Get Chiefs In New Setup

The Conservation Department will place field operations under regional chiefs starting January 1 1963 to improve efficiency and flexibility. Regional chiefs will direct all programs across divisions in the field, strengthening authority beyond current duties. Regional offices are in Marquette for the upper peninsula Roscommon for the northern lower peninsula and Lansing for the southern lower peninsula.

Hunters report rapid kills on opening day with many bucks taken near Clare and surrounding townships. Howard Everts and family lead early totals with a 10 point buck amid a high number of deer checked. Vote to Remove Bounties in 1963 Michigan Session

Michigan moves to end its bounty system after a five year cost of over four million dollars to sportsmen. The Conservation Commission unanimously backs legislation to eliminate bounties saying the program fails to control predators or boost hunter prestige. The panel also seeks to shift half of the Conservation Department's admin costs to the General Fund and approved a 1963-64 budget request of 27 million dollars.

Aima man pleads guilty to unemployment aid fraud

Kenneth J Austin pleaded guilty in Aima Municipal Court to making a false statement on unemployment aid applications. He was fined 100 dollars or 900 days in jail with a stay of sentence to allow restitution of 450 482 501 and 15 dollars costs.
