Bearded cyclist aims for Alaska on 400 mile trip
Fred Server, a bewhiskered 67 to 70 year old cyclist, passed through Clare en route to Manistique 400 miles from Detroit with a 4000 mile planned ride to Alaska next spring. He claims National Hygiene Society membership and a diet of raw vegetables. He plans 60 miles daily to reach Fairbanks University as a model.

HPO Gives Earlier Schedule for Michigan Mail Routes
The Highway Post Office serving Detroit Saginaw Clare and Mackinaw City will move northbound mail one hour earlier effective November 12 1962. Mackinaw City arrival becomes 7:00 a.m. northbound with benefits to Gaylord Cheboygan and Wolverine as well. Southbound departures from Mackinaw City will shift to 7:25 p.m. arrivals in Detroit by 4:30 a.m. The changes are part of a Post Office service improvement program with no extra cost.
