A large crowd of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs gathered in Farwell for the District Association's first meeting of the year. Missing Lt Glenn Sanford Reported in California
Dr and Mrs F G Sanford learned from the War Department that their son Lt Glenn F Sanford was missing after a maneuvers flight. A telegram from Congressman Roy Woodruff later said his plane likely crashed in Sushon Bay near Nichols California with search continuing and no body found. Sanford was a pilot in the 380th Flight Squadron at Oakland Municipal Airport and a Clare High School graduate, commissioned last spring.

Hunters barred from using trucks on deer trips
The Cadillac District Office of the Office of Defense Transportation issued a statement by District Manager Harold L. Frier warning that using trucks for deer hunting trips violates DDT regulations. With severe truck and tire shortages, violations may lead to suspension or revocation of War Necessity Certificates and loss of gasoline rations, and in flagrant cases trucks may be requisitioned for essential activities.

Arling Severson Home Destroyed by Fire Near Clare
The Arling Severson two story brick home four miles east and one and a half miles north of Clare burned Monday afternoon from an undetermined origin. Mrs Severson spotted smoke in the wash room after discovering flames in the attic. Clare Fire Department responded but could not control the blaze. Firemen saved portions of the lower floor and some belongings. a large portion of upstairs contents were lost. The cause remains a mystery though no inflammable materials were found in the basement, and insurance partially covered the loss.
