State Highway Department announces a five year program starting July 1 1967 to fund 75 793 000 in highway construction across 25 northern Lower Peninsula counties raising Michigan’s total 1 year construction to 2.750 billion. Clare Isabella counties projects include freeway reconstructions on M 20 and M 61 and MD 115 to US 27 segments.

Clare radio station WCRM to resume operation soon

The Clare radio station WCRM damaged by a Saturday morning fire is being re equipped and expected to be back on air within a few weeks. The fire in electrical equipment caused smoke in the Isabella county building and destroyed the transmitter.

Nineteen Clare county youths returned from Detroit's Junior Livestock Show with multiple awards at the State Fairgrounds. Dee Dunkle led senior beef showmanship and took champion honors. other youths like Roger Bowers Kent Schmid Diane Dunkleist and John Schunk placed in senior and junior divisions across beef Hereford Angus Shorthorn Yorkshire and swine classes.

Adult Education Classes Begin January 10

Adult education courses start the week of January 10 for a 10 week session. Many people are calling about classes and those interested in a new course should contact Genevieve Fleming, the Adult Education Director, at the school to help arrange an instructor if at least 10 enroll.

Free Diabetes Testing Offered During Detection Week

The Glare General Hospital and the Michigan Diabetes Association offer free blood sugar tests during Diabetes Detection Week November 15 to 19. Samples are drawn daily November 16 to 19 from 1 to 3 p.m., with additional Thursday slots 9 to 11 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. The program targets detection, not treatment, and excludes known diabetics and those under 21.

Haring Stars in Clare Pioneers Season Finale Victory

In Friday’s finish Clare High School defeated Meridian 21-7 as Tim Haring scored twice more and Sheredy added key runs. Al Patterson intercepts to set up a score and Don Booth connects for a late Meridian pass, while Coleman clinches the league title with a 5-0-1 record and 7-0-1 overall.

Gulls Replace Robin on Michigan Week Poster

Paul Penfield announced in Grand Rapids that 1966 Michigan Week will drop the robin from posters for the first time since 1954. The emblem will feature a Mackinac Bridge tower and three sea gulls with bright green and light blue colors, ending the robin’s long run.

Coleman to Seek 17 Mills for School Funding

The Coleman Board of Education voted to ask for 17 mills for operational funds at the December 18 election to replace the expiring levy and cover rising costs. Voters will also decide on borrowing $330000 repayable over 26 years to build eight classrooms a new library and kitchen and industrial arts additions. President Harry Brugger offered to answer questions at the November 23 PTA meeting or any board meeting.

Curtain time this Friday and Saturday at 8 15 p m for the Hi Fever Follies Red Stocking Review on CMU central campus stage. Mrs Joe Johnston and Mrs Jay Trucks of Clare join 135 singers and dancers in the third annual hospital auxiliary benefit to raise funds for equipment.

More than 700 Christmas Club members will receive savings checks on Monday November 15 in the largest pre holiday distribution on record. John Bicknell cashier says the total mailed is 64656.25 dollars as the 1966 club starts.
