Harrison Proud of Splendid New School Building
The Harrison public school system grew from a tiny 1881 start to a large modern district with over three hundred students and nine faculty. The first log cabin school, taught by Anna McCain, stood on the site near the present jail. a large frame building opened for the 1881 term as lumbering boomed. William Murphy, born 1884, became the system’s first recorded student, later recalling mischief and service as janitor and water carrier for pupils.

Three New Wells Added to Clare Field Increase Output
The Clare oil field added three new producers in Freeman township boosting weekly output by about 6,300 barrels per day. James A. Peirce drilled a gas well east of Clare that reached 8 000 000 cubic feet after deepening to 1283 feet. The well started at 1278 feet producing 650 000 cubic feet and later rose to 8 340 000 cubic feet, with formations about two feet higher than the Gulf gas well.

Peter F Masten Killed By Train Near Glare
Peter F Masten aged 78 was found dead Wednesday morning beside the Ann Arbor tracks 2 1 2 miles west of Glare. He had walked daily and was missed in the evening. A freight train about 3 30 a m struck him. Coroner A N Friz removed the body. Funeral services held at Thurston Funeral Home with Rev Albert Dawe officiating.
