Funeral services for Theodore George Bowler were held at St Cecilia's Catholic Church with a high mass and public address system heard by about 1400 attendees. Bowler, born April 24, 1909, died October 28, 1948. He was Clare County prosecutor, educated at Detroit College of Law, later led Sun Q land and legal division in Mt. Pleasant, and served on Clare School District board. His interests included hunting and fishing. Continued on page two.

The Health Board of District No. 7 names Dr. I. G. Sweet of Sterling Michigan as head of the Tri-County Health Department serving Gladwin Clare and Arenac counties and Mrs Kathryn E Freeman as Public Health Nurse for Clare county. Mrs Freeman replaces Erma McDowell who resigned for Serrien County Health Service with headquarters in Benton Harbor Michigan. Both appointees began duties November 1 and the nurse can be reached by telephone 2111 at the Health Department office at the Court House in Harrison.

Longtime Clare Mayor L H Thompson Dies at 73
Lewis H. Thompson, prominent Clare resident and former mayor, died Sunday morning at his Pine Street home after a four month illness. Born January 28, 1868 in Ontario, he moved to Michigan as a boy, built Thompson Implement Store, served as Clare mayor from 1930 for six years, and held local posts on the Allocation Board and Ways and Means Committee. He leaves widow Frances and four children, plus a stepdaughter, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and several siblings. Funeral services were held at Thurston Funeral Home with Masonic rites. burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.

Wm McCon 35 of Farwell was killed on Big Mud Lake when a companion's twelve gauge shotgun discharged as the boat rocked. George M. Finch and Leonard H. Roberts were in the boat. McCon was struck in the left side and died at the scene. State Police investigated from the Reed City Post.
