New Faces On Clare City Council
Clare City voters elected Carl Stephenson and Thomas Johnson to the council for the first time while A J Doherty was re elected. Incumbents Doherty and Walters were defeated, with Walters ending a 20 year run. Mayor Ulrich did not seek re election as he moves from the state.

Clare High School vote spurs students to raise drinking age bid
Clare High School students held a mock election with 202 voting yes and 99 no on raising the drinking age to 21. They backed various state race choices and proposals, with 310 students abstaining. In Clare County, Lt. Gus Aleck defeated Sheriff Raymond Lippold Jr. 4468 to 4101, a historic Democratic win for county office. Ruth Stanley won County Clerk Register of Deeds 4441 to 3875, succeeding the retiring Louis Becker.

Township Repeals Zoning Ordinance in Citizen Vote
Grant Township voters repealed the Zoning Ordinance by 438 to 360 after it was adopted in July. Some say the wording influenced the result. The ballot asked, Shall the Zoning Ordinance be repealed with Yes meaning repeal and No keeping it.
